Obituary

Dorothy Edgerton Baker, 96, formally of Wallace, North Carolina departed her earthly home in Oviedo, Florida for her heavenly home during the early morning of Thursday, November 1, 2018. Born in Wayne County, N.C. on February 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Earl D. and Hettie Gurley Edgerton. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband--Thomas James Baker; her sister--Edna Earle Brinson, and brother--Thomas C. Edgerton.

Mrs. Baker attended Guilford College and was a 1944 graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing. She served in World War II as a Navy nurse with rank of Ensign until July 1946. Upon leaving the military, she became a member of the American Legion. Her church home was the First Baptist Church of Wallace where she served as a Children's Sunday School teacher, GA leader, Deaconess, was a member of the SonShine Senior Choir and participated in other senior adult ministry. Dorothy leaves a legacy of loyalty to her faith, her family and her friends. She will be remembered for many acts of kindness to others throughout the years.

She is survived by two daughters--Faye Lockamy and husband, Eddie of Jacksonville, Florida and Sue Isaac and husband, Bob of Oviedo, Florida; grandchildren--Jennifer Lyles, Michael Lockamy, Robert Isaac and Sarah Naftel; and ten great grandchildren.

A time of visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the 401 West Main Street chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services of Wallace, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thelma Dingus Bryant Library of Wallace, N.C. or the Dr. Sutton Medical Scholarship c/o First Baptist Church, Wallace.
