Wade Liston Hanchey



Wade Liston Hanchey, 57, of the North East community died on Monday, September 10, 2018 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, after a long period of illness. He was born on August 27, 1961 to the late Carlis Liston Hanchey, Jr. and Dorothy Valentine Fisher Hanchey of Duplin County.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children--Jamie Hanchey Staradumsky and her husband Andy of Wallace and Austin Liston Hanchey of Washington, NC; his significant other--Kay Miller of Beulaville; brother--Gerald "Weasel" Hanchey and wife Amy of Wallace.

Wade grew up in the North East community and wanted to be a fireman since the age of thirteen when he became associated with the North East Volunteer Fire Department and became a member as soon as he reached proper age. He was also a member of the Warsaw Fire Department for a number of years and served as a volunteer EMT for Warsaw, Wallace, and Chinquapin Emergency Medical Services. A member of the Duplin County Search and Rescue Team, he has served as chief since 1995 and was instrumental in the organization of the dive team as part of the county search and rescue team. Helping other people was paramount in his philosophy of life as exemplified by his volunteer work. He never hesitated in cooking, whether for the community or an event.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the North East Fire Department with interment at Little Creek Cemetery. The family will greet friends at a visitation on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m. at Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services chapel in Wallace, NC.
