The greater part of Mrs. Parker's career was spent in insurance sales, working as an agent for Jefferson Pilot for sixteen years and also working for several other companies. As a secondary career, she did accounting for a number of people for many years. The greatest love in her life was in family, especially the grandchildren, who she dearly loved. Second to love for family was her love of shopping. Every shopping trip was a delightful experience for her when her good friend, Letha Register, was along. According to Mrs. Shelby, shopping was "better than anything in the world". In her spare time, she liked to paint wood craft items and "cross cut" saws and liked to work word puzzles. She enjoyed working in her flowers and trips to the beach also.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Shelby's life will be held at Padgett Funeral and Cremation Services chapel on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Devotional Gardens of Warsaw immediately after the service.
