After graduating from East Carolina University, Dr. Tart went into the United States Air Force and spent part of his four year military service in Japan. Dr. Tart was very proud of his service to his country and after exiting the Air Force, completed two advanced degrees from East Carolina University culminating with his doctorate degree from North Carolina State University. He spent a number of years in the Duplin County Public School system where he retired as an associate superintendent. He enjoyed reading, movies, traveling and his church life. One of his greatest joys was spending quality time with his grandsons who affectionately call him PopTart. He took the time to plan and take the grandchildren on the “boys week vacations” each year. They were his pride and joy and his love for them was without end.

The Tart family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Wallace United Methodist Church, 303 South College Street, Wallace, NC 28466 or the SECU Hospice House, Post Office Box 1376, Smithfield, N.C. 27577 in memory of Dr. Tart.
