Obituary

Robert Forrest Cavenaugh of Wallace passed from this earthly life in the early morning of Tuesday, May 2, 2018 while at home surrounded by family. He was born on March 26, 1950 in Rose Hill, North Carolina to Susan Pricilla Dickerson Cavenaugh and the late Richard Lee Cavenaugh.

Survivors include his wife--Gail Matthews Cavenaugh; children--Michelle C. Blanchard and her husband Edwin, Amie Cavenaugh-Eakins and her husband George all of Wallace, North Carolina; grandchildren--Johnson C. Blanchard of Yuma, Arizona and Georgia Forrest Cavenaugh-Eakins of Wallace; sisters--Sherry Lane Coombs and her husband Elwood of Wallace, Beth C. Fussell and her husband Bo of Surf City.

After high school, a career in the poultry industry was in his future as a service manager, which occupied his entire work life. The old saying "in order to have friends, one must show himself friendly" definitely applied to Forrest because he has a "ton of friends". This was manifested in the large amount of visitors he had during his declining health, whether in the health facilities in Greenville, NC or at home in Wallace. Earlier in life, spare time was occupied by watching NASCAR racing, surf fishing or in collecting skillets and cleavers. He took great delight in keeping his lawn in immaculate condition, partly due to the tremendous pleasure he had in mowing. Most of us do this as a chore but he did it as a pleasure. Cooking for others was another of his pleasures which was enjoyed by all those fortunate enough to be in his company. Enjoyment of food made him an excellent cook and his love of music was defined by "Elvis" and Johnny Cash. He has tremendous love for the entire family but the grandchildren stand out in this affection. There are a great many people in this world who will truly have a void caused by the loss of such a wonderful and kind person as Forrest. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made in memory of Forrest to the American Cancer Society--McConnell-Rabb Hope Lodge, 930 Wellness Drive, Greenville, North Carolina 27834
