Gene Edward Pigford



Mr. Gene Edward Pigford of Wallace, N.C. passed from his earthly life to his heavenly life on Saturday, February 24, 2018. He was born in New Hanover County on March 30, 1947 to the late Herman Hill Pigford and Mildred Scott Evans Pigford.

Surviving are his daughters--Michelle Pigford Longest and her husband Worth of Moseley, VA.; Heather Pigford Bridgers and her husband Carl of Rocky Point; grandchildren Garrett Longest and Lisa Grace Longest of Moseley, VA, Myles Bridgers of Rocky Point; and his twin brother Deane Edgar Pigford and his wife Patricia of Willard.

Mr. Pigford attended Wallace Rose Hill High School where he played basketball. He received an associate degree from Hardbarger Business School and worked a good part of his career in fund raising for schools in the public school system. Earlier in life he played golf but his prime free time interest has always been in fishing. He spent a great deal of time with family on the coastal piers of North Carolina teaching them to participate in one of his favorite activities in life. He also loved attending high school football and basketball games and watching college sports on television.

Interment will be in the Rockfish Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. A visitation will be held after the interment at Wallace United Methodist Church from 5:00 til 7:00 p.m. with memorial ceremony at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Pall bearers will be Jason Bradshaw, George Allen Brown, Joe Brown, Frankie Harrell, Eddie Lanier, Mike Scronce, and honorary bearer Robert Matthews. Family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Wallace United Methodist Church, 303 South College Street, Wallace, N.C. 28466
